For Jordan

A Poem
by Jenny Davidson

In a moment of love, You were conceived
And since that moment of love, we have believed
God has a special plan for you that we can’t understand
And as I hold you ‘neath my heart, Jesus holds you in his hands

I will always remember hearing your first heart beat
I will treasure for always every kick from your tiny feet
As you grew within my body, just below my heart
Waiting for the day when your life would start

Jordan, my love, I am praying for you now
Jordan, my love, I don’t know just how
God gives you to us for such a short time
And Jordan, my love, peace I pray you find

The news was hard to hear, how your heart was just too weak
They told us how you’d never learn to speak
They told us very soon your days would come cease
That to heaven you would go, before you ever learn to breathe.

Your daddy and I are praying for your life
Your brothers and I are waiting to hear your cries
We won’t give up Jordan, as long as you are here
Though our hearts are full of love, our eyes are full of tears

Jordan, my love, I am praying for you now
Jordan, my love, I don’t know just how
God gives you to us for such a short time
And Jordan, my love, peace I pray you find

Now we know that each day is a gift
Every moment of discomfort, and every tiny kick
For you will be going home with Jesus sooner than we thought
And Jordan, my love, this is the hardest war I’ve fought

Hold on tight, my Jordan, we believe you can
Keep growing deep inside me, ’til we can hold you in our hands
We love you little Jordan, and we can’t give up on you
Please Jesus do not take him, our love for him is true

Jordan, my love, I am praying for you now
Jordan, my love, I don’t know just how
God gives you to us for such a short time
And Jordan, my love, peace I pray you find
