For Kevin Benjamin Wislon

A Poem
by Annie Cleaver

Dear God,
The nursery was ready for our bundle of joy.
Why did you take our bouncing baby boy?

Alex was waiting to meet his new brother.
Why couldn’t you have taken another?

You must have your reasons, though it’s not quite clear.
So we need some answers, right quick, down here.

There are too many reasons to list.
But it’s not fair, it’s not supposed to be like this.

Couldn’t you have taken some murderer or thief
to save us from this pain, suffering and grief?

The answer just came to me why you wanted Kevin,
You must’ve needed an angel up in heaven.

For he was perfect, pure, and made from true love.
Of course you would take him and let him soar like a dove.
