Sample Birth Plans PDF Print E-mail

After receiving news that your much loved baby is not expected to survive, many famililes  have found that being as prepared as possible goes a long way toward having the birth experience be as positive, peaceful, or as smooth as can be expected under the circumstances.

Something that has been of immeasurable value to many families when preparing for the birth and death of their baby is to have a birth plan.  If you have a birth plan, however simple or detailed - please consider submitting it to us for posting within the member area of our website.  If you are looking for ideas and assistance in creating a birth plan of your own, please feel free to borrow from any of the samples below.

Why create a birth plan?  Your birth plan might be the single most important thing that you do before your baby is born.  When you put in writing your wishes and expectations, you leave less room for doubt on delivery day.  Having your OB, his staff, and anyone else that is going to be part of your care 'sign off' ahead of time that they are aware of your wishes and expectations will allow you to focus on the birth of your baby, and not on directing everyone in the room.  It will let you be more in control of the your baby's care.  It will also make everyone understand that you are aware of the situation that your child is in, and that you have embraced the facts and want to do whatever you can to acheive your goals.

Depending on your unique circumstances, you will also want to make the most of any memory making opportunities you will have with your baby.  Incorporating these things into your birth plan will give you the opportunity to talk things over with your OB and get things in place logistically, and realistically.  Sometimes the things that you will want to do would require a change in the normal protocol the staff follows for a baby's birth - you will be glad to have made these things clear ahead of time.

To submit your birth plan, simply contact us with any instructions you may have for when it is posted.  If you wish, you may remove any personally identifiable details, or leave those intact as you desire.  The birth plans will be posted on our General Reading Area.

We extend our deepest thanks to those who have chosen to share their birth plans so that families to come after us will benefit.
